Okuri Ashi Harai - Assisted Ankle Sweep This form of Okuri Ashi Harai will look similar to Sasai Tsurikomi Ashi at first, but will attack the rear leg with a strong sweeping motion rather than the front leg with a blocking action.
Grip using your right hand cupping around the opponent's neck while controlling their right arm with a triceps/elbow grip with your left hand.
Step strongly to your left front corner with a circular movement, dragging your opponent, via the neck grip, along with you in a circle. This will force them to take a large forward step with their left leg, followed by a circular step with their right leg to maintain balance.
The throw occurs just after they begin the second, right-leg, step. While it is still moving, sweep their right leg at the ankle into and through their left using your left leg. At the same time, apply a lifting motion with your arms and a horizontal force with the neck grip in the opposite direction of the sweep.
Essentially, sweep one leg such that it "clacks" into the other, aiming ultimately to sweep both of them off the ground, moving from left to right while at the same time moving their upper body from right to left. If done strongly and with good timing, your opponent will become horizontal in mid-air and will land on their back with you along side and above them, in control.
From that position you can transition into ground work and/or striking, working from a vastly superior position.
The nice thing about Okuri Ashi Harai is that it is more of a "timing" throw, so it can be effective against large, stronger opponents, and doesn't cost much in the way of energy expenditure on your part. Even a failed attempt will tend to cause a stumble and momentarily off-balancing as the opponent's legs are swept together, making them vulnerable to follow-up attacks.
Give it a try!
