Tai Otoshi - Body Drop This is not a hip throw, so there should be room between tori and uke. It is considered a hand technique.
We have found that ordinarily tori's hand and arm can end up behind his shoulder as he turns to throw. This not only is feeble, but can cause injury to wrists and shoulders. We have found that maintaining a strong wrist and curling the lapel, placing the forearm against uke's chest and holding that position, while turning in, is far stronger.
At the end of the throw, tori actually does a little bench press forward with his throwing arm. This technique stops the arm from staying behind tori's shoulder and is a much stronger throw.
